USA, FL: Proof Brewing Company relocates to larger space in Tallahassee
Tallahassee brewery is now back up and running after relocating to South Monroe Street, WCTV reported on February 1.
Proof Brewing Company announced that it would leave its location at Rail Road Square back in March, flipping the old Coca Cola bottling factory on Monroe Street. The new location is about three times the space of the old one and gives Proof five times the brewing capacity.
"It's a little surrealistic to be open back in operation," said Proof co-founder Byron Burroughs.
The new facility includes an in-house kitchen, serving pub food and a children's menu. There is also a tasting room, outdoor area and space for private parties. Though the location is new, the same laid back vibe is felt throughout the building.
"We really want people to come in and enjoy this space, like they're hanging out at their best friends house. If you live here, you are welcome," said Proof co-founder Angela Burroughs.
Proof is one of several local businesses opening up shop on South Monroe in the last year. Happy Motoring opened last year, flipping an old gas station. And across the street, the Grafetria is being revitalized.
Burroughs said the idea of refurbishing the building and keeping its history as a manufacturing facility was important to him and his wife.
"I think that it means a lot when you have the opportunity in construction and development to take something old and make it new again," he said.
According to the Office of Economic Vitality, the new location is expected to have a $23 million annual economic impact on Leon County. And, create more than 100 direct and indirect jobs.
Cristina Paredes, Director of OEV, said the "SOMO" area is becoming appealing to local business owners because of the many infrastructure improvements made by the city and county.
"The connectivity has been a huge drive for businesses taking a look there," she said. "The walkability of FAMU Way, the pedestrian bridge from Cascades Park."
A grand opening is scheduled for February 8.
