UK: Workers at the Boddingtons brewery in Manchester started a two day strike on Monday, November 1, as part of their campaign to save the plant. The company's owner, Interbrew, plans to close the historic brewery and move production elsewhere with the loss of 55 jobs. It says it is no longer profitable to produce beer at the site. The 48-hour strike by members of the Transport and General Workers Union began at 2200 GMT. Union official Mike Thompson said workers had no alternative but to strike.
