USA, NY: Fidens Brewing Co. to open its doors in Colonie on September 28
Three friends who grew up in Saranac and relocated to the Capital Region have spent the past year and a half developing a nanobrewery in an industrial park off Central Avenue in Colonie, the Albany Times Union reported on September 20.
Called Fidens Brewing Co., the brewery will have a small bar for its tasting room, but it will primarily be a place to fill growlers for the two to three rotating beers, mostly IPAs, that Fidens will have on tap each week.
The partners are Mike Carter, a financial adviser; Steve Parker, a gym teacher; and Tim Pierce, an accountant. Parker is the head brewer.
Carter said the co-owners have no outside investors, having used their own savings and borrowing to come up with the six-figure budget to build out the four-barrel brewery and tasting room. The Fidens name, he said, is from the Latin for courage or resoluteness, and he said it is reflective of the determination the partners felt to grow from homebrewers into a commercial venture that will make up to six rotating beers in the first few months, with more being rolled out in the future.
The opening day will be this Saturday, Sept. 28, with hours from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thereafter, Saturday will be the lone business day at first, also from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with Friday and perhaps Thursday evening hours possible in the future, depending on customer demand and brewing cycles. The brewery may also host food trucks and events, again demand on business patterns and customer demand, Carter said.
