USA, MN: The Iron Exchange Tavern & Brewery coming to Maple Plain soon
Maple Plain will soon be getting its very own brewpub, The Iron Exchange Tavern & Brewery, The Growler reported on November 11.
Complete with house-brewed beer, guest taps, a full food menu, and a house cocktail program, the project located at 1500 Howard Avenue is led by wife-husband duo Mary and Todd Murley, with Todd working as the head brewer.
For the past two years, he’s been learning under brewer Kristen England of Bent Brewstillery in preparation to open his own “dream brewpub.” Iron Exchange will have 20 tap lines with a custom draft tower designed by Atom Pechman of Form From Form, a Minneapolis-based art studio that specializes in three-dimensional design. On the production side, Todd is starting with a 10-barrel brewhouse with six fermentors and 10 serving tanks.
Specific house beers have yet to be announced, but Todd promises a wide array alongside guest taps pouring beer, cider, hard seltzer, and wine. “I like a variety of styles and I wanted to do the brewpub model as it gives a lot of flexibility in what you brew,” he says. “I’m partial to hops, so we’ll for sure have a couple hop-focused beers on tap at all times. We’ll probably do a lighter style, such as a blonde or cream ale and also a stout for the dark beer fans.” Plans for a house cocktail program will offer contemporary recipes and old classics, with a focus on high-quality spirits.
In the kitchen, chef Aric Miech, who previously worked under Chicago chef Charlie Trotter, is stepping back into the restaurant realm after working as a private chef, and will be cooking up “Midwestern comfort food” including smash burgers, Detroit-style pizza, and old school fish-fries at the brewpub.
With a built-in stage and baby grand piano, the taproom is primed for plenty of live music and entertainment. A specific opening date is TBD, but they’re hoping to be open for business by the end of 2019.
