USA, CA: Dos Sirenos Brewing joins San Antonio’s craft beer scene
Brewery news

San Antonio craft beer fans got an extra holiday gift this season. Anticipated neighborhood taproom Dos Sirenos Brewing opened to the public Friday, December 27, at 4 pm, culturemap.com reported, citing co-owner Mike Sireno.

The Southtown brewpub has been on the local radar since fall 2018 when the owners took over the long-shuttered former home of Beach Bar at 231 E. Cevallos St. Named for Mike and his son Jacob Sireno, who split brewing duties, Dos Sirenos' logo — featuring twin mermen — is a nod to the translation of their surname. Mike’s wife, Kari, is also on board to help run the business.

Dos Sirenos will launch with five core beers: Weiss Guys, a hefeweizen; Athena, a Belgian wit; Morpheus, a Russian imperial stout; Atlas Strong Ale, a winter ale; and Trident Tripel Ale, a Belgian tripel. There will also be other German styles, like a pilsner and dunkelweizen, and an American IPA for hop heads. The 20-tap system can accommodate more future experimentation.

An approachable menu of food, made in-house, will help sop up all that beer. The regular offerings include burgers with Akaushi beef; wings; chicken and Italian sandwiches; and various appetizers and desserts, such as ice cream floats.

The brewpub is intended to be a family- and pet-friendly spot, with more than 4,000 square feet of interior space and a patio. Flatscreens and games will keep revelers occupied, and the team plans to introduce live local music to the lineup at a future date. Additionally, Dos Sirenos hopes to foster community with its Poseidon Club, featuring a variety of perks for regulars.

Standard hours for the concept are still being determined, but Sireno tells CultureMap that Dos Sirenos will be open 11 am-10 pm on December 28 and 11 am-8 pm on December 29. Brunch will be served both days, from 11 am-2 pm.

Dos Sirenos joins a slate of San Antonio breweries that have just opened. Southtown favorite Blue Star Brewing Co. opened its second location at North Star Mall in early December, and Back Unturned Brewing took over the former Brooklynite space downtown in mid-November.

Even more breweries are on the way in 2020, promising that San Antonio will indeed have a very happy new year.
