USA, CA: Green Cheek Beer Company to open second location in Costa Mesa
Brewery news

Green Cheek Beer Company has bought Barley Forge and will open a second location at that spot in Costa Mesa, OCRegister reported on December 31.

Brian Rauso and Evan Price, co-owners of Green Cheek, acquired Barley Forge for $1.05 million and hope to open within a week. “We are going to be ready for opening a week from today,” Price said on Monday, Dec. 30. “We’re waiting to hear from ABC and sometimes they take a little longer than we appreciate. It’s a standard name change on the license and normally wouldn’t take this long but we’re in the middle of the holidays.”

Barley Forge Brewing Co., the first brewery in Costa Mesa, decided not to renew its lease, Mary Ann Frericks, who opened Barley Forge with her husband Greg Nylen, and Kevin Buckley, director of brewing operations, told the Register in October.

Price said Green Cheek now owns the Barley Forge brand but will likely sell it. Green Cheek will keep the restaurant going with much of the same staff and hopes to have 30 taps, including guest taps, in Costa Mesa. The brewery will still continue to operate its location in Orange at 2294 N. Batavia St., No. C.
