USA, OH: Basil’s on Market planning craft brewery in Mason
Basil’s on Market, which already operates three restaurants in the region, plans to launch a craft brewery in Mason to produce beer for its restaurants and for distribution in southwest Ohio, the Hamilton Journal News reported on January 6.
Basil’s on Market operates restaurants in Troy, downtown Dayton and Mason, all of which will remain open, said Jeffrey Finkelstein, co-founder of Basil’s on Market. It plans to soon open a new location in Beavercreek in suburban Dayton.
Finkelstein and Basil’s on Market co-founder Todd Uhlir also own Locktenders, a separate restaurant concept which opened four months ago in downtown Piqua.
If all goes well, the new Basil’s on Market will open this spring, Finkelstein said.
Opening the Beavercreek restaurant will give Basil’s on Market’s owners the opportunity to re-tool its Mason location to include a craft brewery to be called “Off the Rails Brewery,” which will brew beer for all Basil’s locations, Finkelstein said. Long-term plans call for distributing Off the Rails beers throughout the Dayton and Cincinnati areas, the Basil’s co-founder said.
The first Basil’s on Market bistro-style restaurant opened in 2014 in downtown Troy. The downtown Dayton restaurant, which overlooks the Great Miami River, welcomed its first customers in 2016, and the Mason location opened in 2018. Each step of the way, Basil’s on Market’s founders have said they intend to expand the concept across the region.
“We look forward to the Beavercreek location opening early spring and being able to contribute a locally owned business to that area,” Finkelstein said. “We will also be offering a 15 percent discount to all active military members who dine with us. We look forward to all future partnerships that we will create in the area.”
