USA, WA: Brick West Brewing Co. now open in downtown Spokane
After more than a year of construction, Brick West Brewing Co. is now open on the west end of downtown Spokane, The Spokesman-Review reported on January 16.
The brewer opened its taproom Jan. 3 in the former Watts Automotive building, which had been vacant for several years.
Brick West, at 1318 W. First Ave., has a “beer hall” feel with a large patio and offers 13 craft beers on draft. It also serves gourmet hot dogs, wine, cider and has a small liquor selection.
The brewery is a project of two sets of brothers, Matt and Ryan Goodwin, and Joel and Jordan Tampien.
Brick West Brewing partnered with Sam Milne to create the brewery’s craft beers. Milne started as a home brewer before working at Pyramid Brewing Co. in Seattle and Kulshan Brewing Co. in Bellingham.
He was a recipient of the 2018 Falconer Foundation Siebel Brewing Scholarship, which allowed him to study craft beer brewing at the Siebel Institute in Chicago and Doemens Academy in Munich.
Brick West shares a building with Watts 1903 Spirits and Eatery, which is anticipated to open later this month.
Matt Goodwin said there are plans to partner with the eatery for meet-the-brewer events, tastings and dinners.
Brick West Brewing is hosting a grand opening event Feb. 1 with live music; brewery tours: a rock, paper, scissors tournament; prizes; a photobooth by PNW FotoWagen; and the release of Westbound Train, a hazy pale ale with Citra hops.
