Shepherd Neame, the Kent-based brewer and pub operator has reported strong results for 52 weeks ended 29 June 2002. This is its 27th consecutive year of profit growth. Turnover is up 10.5% to £78.8m. Trading profit (excluding property profits) is up 12.6% to £7.7m. Total brewing volume is up 6.1% with strong Spitfire sales – up 29.2%. So, Spitfire ale is again the star performer. “To develop the brand further we have committed to a TV campaign to run in November and December,” the company reported.

Jonathan Neame, Managing Director, said: “Although the UK economic outlook is uncertain, we believe that we are in an excellent position to grow our brands and become the leading specialist brewer in the UK.”
