USA, MD: Gateway Craft Brewing opens its doors in Salisbury
After several years in the making, a new Salisbury brewery opened its doors for the first time this weekend, WMDT reported on July 26.
Lynn and Tim Gavigan are the owners of Gateway Craft Brewing on Northwood Drive. Lynn tells 47 ABC that brewing started as a hobby for Tim but they decided to turn it into a retirement project by opening a brewery of their own. They make the beer in very small hand crafted batches and call themselves a nano brewery. Currently, they have a kölsch beer, gose beer and Belgian beer available. Lynn says they had a pale ale that sold out on Friday, July 24 and they are working on an IPA.
Lynn says they’re following COVID-19 guidelines but those restrictions are adding an extra challenge as they welcome customers for the first time. “Our full capacity would be close to 30 so we’re trying to keep it around 12 or 15. But that was hard to do on our first day open to say no you can’t come in. So that’s the challenge with COVID, it’s a bad time to open something like this,” says Lynn Gavigan.
Right now, they are limited to selling tastings since they only have their state license. They’re working to get signatures to apply for a county license in order to sell pints.
Gateway Craft Brewing is located at 2207 Northwood Drive in Salisbury and is open from 12 PM to 7 PM, Thursday through Saturday.
