Canada: Canada ships most of its barley export target for this crop year
Canada’s barley exports in August-April were around 3 mln tonnes, of which 2.6 mln to China, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their May report.
The export target is 3.5 mln tonnes for the crop year August-July 2020/21.
Canadian farmers plan to seed 8.613 mln acres (3.485 mln ha) of barley this year vs. 7.561 mln acres in 2020. Alberta will be the largest province with 1.6 mln, followed very closely by Saskatchewan with 1.57 mln acres.
Markets were calm in April, China being absent from the market, and domestic maltsters on the sidelines, unhappy with the existing price levels.
