USA, SD: Roundhouse Brew Pub launches in Sioux Falls
A new brewery opened on July 12 on the south side of Sioux Falls, offering a neighborhood patio west of the University of Sioux Falls stadium, the Argus Leader reported.
Just-opened Roundhouse Brew Pub on 1515 E. 69th St. sits between 69th Street and Cliff Avenue. It's the first neighborhood sports bar to open near the homes and apartments on the quiet southern edge of town.
It has 94 seats total with over a dozen outside, which were full most of the night on July 12.
“It’s a ghost town. It feels like an underserved area,” co-owner Jason Walsh said. “We wanted to be for the neighborhood. We weren’t trying to be big."
But opening night was still busy after dark.
And its Minnesota-based Roundhouse set of seven brews, from a lime-tinted beer to a pink smooth seltzer, were a hit at the grand opening. Both the patio and the indoor dining area were busy with drink and food orders at the sports brewery. Philly sandwiches and Coors were also classics on tables even after 8 p.m.
“We’ve seen unbelievable comments on the food and positive comments on the Roundhouse beer, which is new to Sioux Falls,” Walsh said. “The favorite beer is actually the pink one on all the tables, the strawberry-rhubarb seltzer."
Golden Spike IPA and Angel Seed Amber were also popular, Walsh added.
The brewery is aimed to have a good focus on the south side of town and its sports fans. There are twelve 65-inch TVs with Houston, Minnesota, Wisconsin and other regional-favorite games playing.
His staff of 18 people moved quickly to design both the menu and the service to feel like “Cheers,” where everyone gets to know a good group of regulars living nearby, Walsh said.
With other bars over a mile away, Walsh hopes the dog-friendly and family-friendly brewery will stay popular.
“Anyone in Sioux Falls will pack it in when you first open," he said. "What’s tough is when it’s full to perform. But we’ve do well so far.”
