USA, ME: Brickyard Hollow Brewing Company on track to launch in Ogunquit on July 1
Brewery news

Brickyard Hollow Brewing Company, which is on track to open at 335 Main Street in Ogunquit on Friday, July 1, according to co-owner Brad Moll. The brewery and restaurant are opening in the space formerly occupied by Bintliff’s Steak House and, before that, The Viking ice cream parlor, Seacoastonline.com reported on June 23.

“It has always been a good spot,” Moll said.

The food and beer are tried and true, as Moll has three other Brickyard Hollows along the coast of Maine, in Yarmouth, Freeport and Portland. This new Ogunquit site expands his operations southward.

“When I was looking for a new location, I was looking for a small town that didn’t have a craft brewery – something small enough that we could connect with the community,” Moll said. “This just felt like a good spot ... It felt like a good fit for us.”

Brendon Medeiros will be the brewery’s operations manager, just as he is for the company’s other locations. Currently, Brickyard Hollow is hiring for two positions: a cook and a delivery person. Anyone interested in either of these two positions can email Medeiros at brendon@brickyardhollow.com.

This new Brickyard Hollow is creating approximately 40 new jobs in the community, according to Moll.

Moll strolled through the restaurant on Tuesday as construction crews worked busily around him. Merchandise will be sold over there, he said, pointing to a corner near the entrance. A cooler filled with the company’s own beers will be right here, he added, nodding to some space next to the counter where hosts will greet diners. He also pointed out where the bar will be and offered a glimpse of the dining rooms. One of them has windows that offer a peek inside the brewery in the back.

The dining rooms will be able to seat about 100, Moll said.

The walls have two shades, “greige,” a mix of gray and beige, on the top and “seal skin,” a soft brown, on the bottom. Come opening day, they will have pictures celebrating the community of Ogunquit and its history – décor that is in step with the other Brickyard Hollows that pay tribute to their locations. Moll said he had worked with the Wells-Ogunquit Historical Society for ideas on what to showcase.

“We found some really cool photos, with the help of those folks there,” Moll said. “We’ve got a really cool mural going up of Ogunquit Beach, from the early 1900s.”

And an iconic photo of legendary actress Bette Davis, who as a teenager served as a local lifeguard before she shot to fame and silver screen immortality.

It is in Yarmouth that Brickyard Hollow has its own history.

“Although it might be hard to believe because of how character-filled and adorable our downtown is, the coastal town of Yarmouth wasn’t always as it is now,” the company states on its website.

In fact, the downtown – including 236 Main Street, where the original Brickyard Hollow Brewery exists, was once all wet and muddy in its land separating Yarmouth’s fishing industry and inland farming community. At the turn of the 20th Century, the town eliminated this swampy dividing line and filled in the hollow with black ash from the local paper mill. In time, this area became a gathering ground for the community.

Now, the company is hoping its fourth location can become a gathering place for the Ogunquit community too. The brewery and restaurant will be open seven days a week, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

“We’re a very family-friendly, community-based place,” Moll said. “We’d love to see everybody of all ages here.”
