USA, TN: Monkey Town Brewing Co. coming to Chattanooga
Monkey Town Brewing Co. is coming to Chattanooga. William Garrison told the Chattanooga Beer Board that the new location is at 724 Ashland Terrace. He has been in the business for seven years with the other pubs that are in Dayton, Tn. Unlike the other locations, the one in Chattanooga will only sell beer - no liquor or wine, The Chattanoogan.com reported on July 7.
This is a family operation, he said, and his son is the brewer. Both beer and food will be ordered with a walk-up style service where customers take a number and are able to start a tab. The capacity will be 90 with seating for 60 inside and an outdoor area that will seat 30 or 40 people. Mr. Garrison said he is not planning to have security there because he has had no problems or fights in the other locations and does not expect any in Chattanooga since the business has a restaurant atmosphere. There is no over-serving and anyone who is noticeably intoxicated is refused service, he said. And the business will close at 10 or 11 p.m.
The board approved a consumer, a carryout and a manufacturer permit for Monkey Town Brewing. Manufacturing is done with a small-scale system that brews around three and a half barrels, so the beers will not be distributed, but sold by the bar itself in house or in growlers to carry-out. Brewing will begin now that a beer license has been approved and the goal is to open on Monday, July 25.
The board also approved a consumer beer permit for Hoppy’s North River Corner Market, 100 W. Bell Ave. The neighborhood market has been around for 40 years and is known for selling craft beers. It also serves breakfast and lunch, and customers sometimes want a beer with their sandwich, said owner Mark Hopkins.
The business previously had only a carry-out license. His application for a consumer beer license was approved. He said the consumer permit would prevent customers in the small restaurant from the violation of consuming beer that had been sold as carry-out.
A new Mapco Express at 2282 Encompass Dr. near Shallowford Road was also approved for a carry-out beer license at the meeting.
Two temporary beer permits were approved for upcoming events. The Riverfront Nights Concert Series, which began in June this year, will continue through July into August. Beer can be sold at 100 Riverfront Parkway / Ross’s Landing with the approval from the board. The concerts approved Thursday are for Aug. 6, 13, 20 and 27, from 6-10 p.m. each night.
“Every Class Bash,” that will take place July 22 from 7-11 p.m., will be on Alumni Weekend for Notre Dame High School. A golf tournament will be held that morning and the Bash that evening will be for every class. There will also be a brunch on Saturday morning to celebrate members of the 50th year class. The bash will have two bars serving both beer and wine. The board was told this event is limited to those 21 or older.
