USA, VA: Legend Brewing Company pours its last pint at its Olde Towne Portsmouth location
A Richmond-based brewing company poured its last pint at its Olde Towne Portsmouth location on Sunday, September 11, the Yahoo News reported.
Legend Brewing Company decided to close its Portsmouth restaurant and brewery this past weekend after opening five years ago. The 4,300-square-foot satellite location, called Legend Brewing Depot, has operated in the Seaboard Building in Olde Towne since leasing the space in late 2016.
In a Wednesday, August 31 Facebook post, Legend thanked Portsmouth customers for years of patronage and letting the brewery be a part of the community. In the comments, customers shared photos and videos of their favorite memories, like drag bingo night and the Glencoe Ghost Scotch Ale.
“It breaks our hearts to let you know we have made the very difficult decision to not renew our lease in the Seaboard Building,” Legend said in the post. “We are focusing on the future of the Legend legacy as we continue to bring you fresh, delicious, craft beer.”
Legend leased the space in late 2016 as the Monument Cos. was redeveloping the property into luxury apartments, according to previous Virginian-Pilot reporting. The city of Portsmouth, hungry to land a craft brewery, spent between $10,000 and $15,000 on advertising to recruit a beer-maker to the downtown area.
