USA, OH: Sideswipe Brewing to shut down after nearly a decade in business
After nearly a decade on the Columbus craft beer scene, Sideswipe Brewing will close its doors at the end of July, the Columbus Underground reported on June 30.
Owner and Brewer Craig O’Herron opened the brewery at 2419 Scioto Harper Dr. just southwest of Grandview in late 2013.
“Thank you Columbus for being a great city filled with craft beer enthusiasts and a strong collaborative brewing community, without your support my dreams of owning a craft brewery would never have become a reality,” O’Herron shared in a press release.
O’Herron says that while business was doing well, after 10 years he felt like it was time for a change.
“I’m looking forward to taking some time off and exploring my options from there,” he says.
Initially launching with a limited lineup, Sideswipe’s repertoire grew over the years to offer a number of beers, including a wide variety of IPAs, lagers, wheat beers, stouts and more. Their beer lineup wasn’t the only thing to grow. In 2019 the brewery expanded its taproom footprint in partnership with Arcade Super Awesome.
Arcade Super Awesome has not yet responded to a request for comment on its future at the time of publishing.
As for the future of the brewery’s space, that’s all lined up.
Sideswipe’s space and brewery has been purchased by Columbus local Jason Wing, who plans to rebrand and open his own brewery.
“We are excited to see where home brewer Jason Wing takes our beloved location with his exciting new concept,” O’Herron says.
Sideswipe fans will have a few weeks to grab one last pint(s). The taproom’s last day of operation will be Sunday, July 30. Sideswipe will also host a going away party on Saturday, July 22.
Taproom hours are 4 – 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 4 – 10 p.m. Friday, 1 – 10 p.m. Saturday and 1 – 7 p.m. Sunday.
Sideswipe is the second local brewery to announce a closure this week. On Monday, June 26, Zaftig announced its Italian Village brewpub was closed, effective immediately.
