USA, NY: K2 Brothers Brewing to open a new location in Walworth
The former Freewill Elementary School in Walworth, which has been vacant since its closure in June 2017, is undergoing a dramatic transformation.
K2 Brothers Brewing, a local craft beer company, has taken over the property at 4320 Canandaigua Road with ambitious plans to convert it into a multi-purpose venue.
The brothers behind K2, Brad and Kyle Kennedy, were drawn to the former school for its expansive indoor space of over 72,000 square feet and nearly 42 acres of property.
Their vision includes turning the former gymnasium into a 20-barrel brew house with a substantial fermentation capacity. The project, initiated in May, is moving at full speed to be ready for opening in the coming weeks.
The transformation of the old school into “K2 at Freewill” aims to create an adult playground, complete with indoor and outdoor entertainment spaces, meeting rooms, gaming machines, and more.
The facility will feature a large commercial kitchen, a bar situated in the former cafeteria, and 30 draught lines offering a variety of craft beers, ciders, and cocktails. While maintaining their flagship location on Empire Boulevard, the Kennedys plan to use this new facility to expand their operations across New York and beyond. Emphasizing community integration, the space will retain elements of the school’s history, such as the multicolored tile floors, and will incorporate local memorabilia.
Future plans include catering services, take-and-bake meals, and spaces for events and gatherings, aiming to make K2 at Freewill a community asset. An official grand opening date is yet to be announced, but it is expected soon.
