USA, TX: Busted Sandal Brewing Company closes after 11 years in business
Brewery news

A sudsy San Antonio brewery with brew spots in the Texas Hill Country is calling it quits after trying everything it could to remain open. While it is a somber moment for the brand that's served the community for over 11 years, the brewery is holding final farewell celebrations to wrap up operations, MySA reported on October 3.

The Busted Sandal Brewing Company announced on Wednesday evening, October 2, that all three brewery locations will close this fall.

"We could not have accomplished all that we have without the great support from all of you," the company said in an Instagram post. "We do not close Busted Sandal with immense regret, but rather with a great sense of pride, holding our heads high knowing we made great beer and created a fun place for our Sandal Family."

There are "no more tricks up our sleeves" and there is no immediate change in the economy to help "lower the burden on our customer’s personal costs of housing, food and day-to-day life," the post noted.

"We are truly appreciative of the decisions you have all made to support our business the best you could in the past few years during tough times," the post read. "If we could simply charge $12 for pints of beer to cover the increased costs of doing business, we would… but the beer industry doesn’t operate the same way other inflation-ridden goods and service industries can."

Busted Sandal opened in 2013 and grew to three locations: the original in San Antonio, Helotes and in Kerrville, which opened on July 1, 2023. They serve a variety of beer styles including the 210 Ale (6.1% ABV), the Slippery Rock IPA (7.1%) and the El Robusto Porter (7.4% ABV), folks can purchase a growler to take a favorite beer home.

The San Antonio brewery is holding a farewell party on October 12 before its final day on October 13. Helotes will throw a farewell party on November 2 before shutting down on November 12, while Kerrville will throw two going out bashes on November 9 and 10 before closing for good on November 10.

"Again, we are sad to close the doors and say goodbye to you all. We will miss you tremendously!" the post concluded.
