USA, ME: Modestman Brewing moving operations from Keene to South Portland
Modestman Brewing in Keene has closed and is moving its operations to South Portland, Maine, the brewery’s Facebook account announced on August 7.
The brewery, which has served people at 100 Main St. since it opened in 2019, is now doing all of its brewing and tasting services in the Maine port city, the post said.
“This move allows us to produce more beer, at a higher quality, with greater creative control, all in service of making the best possible beer for our New England community!” the post said.
The building that housed Modestman in Keene will be listed for sale, the post said.
The brewery’s owner Ash Sheehan could not be reached for comment on August 7.
That morning, a sign in the Main Street building’s front window said “Due to circumstances out of our control we cannot open this weekend. We apologize for any inconvenience.”
Modestman’s South Portland location opened in July 2023, according to coverage by The Portland Press Herald.
The Keene location’s building was previously a TD Bank, per previous Sentinel reporting. The brewery and taproom followed an earlier Elm City venture by Sheehan, who also owned Tacqueria Odelay before it closed in 2022.
