USA, WA: Boundary Bay Brewery is closing, but the beer isn’t going away
Bellingham’s beloved brewery and pub is closing this fall. One last soiree at the brewery and pub on September 20th will mark the end of a 30-year run. That is sad, especially for the locals and those who have adored Boundary Bay Brewery and Bistro for all these years, the Washington Beer Blog reported on August 11.
Since announcing the pending closure, Boundary Bay Brewery has been approached by other breweries about the possibility of using its unique recipes to contract brew the iconic beer and keep the Boundary Bay brand available to customers.
On August 11, however, Boundary Bay Brewery announced that it has agreed with another local brewery to continue producing Boundary Bay Brewery’s beers, including Scotch Ale, Cedar Dust IPA, NW Original IPA, and select seasonals.
After exploring the options, Boundary Bay decided to move forward with Black Raven Brewery in Woodinville, Washington, to brew three of its most popular flagships and select seasonals. Citing its years-long, trusted friendship with Black Raven’s owner, Beaux Bowman, and its state-of-the-art brewing facility in Woodinville, Boundary Bay owners say this is an exciting and perfect fit.
Black Raven Brewery says it is honored to continue the tradition, “The Black Raven family is super excited to brew with our friends from Boundary Bay Brewing and continue their legacy forward. Beaux has known and respected Ed and Janet since his early days in the industry in the early 2000’s. We are humbled by the trust they have bestowed upon us to help continue their journey into the future.”
This means Boundary Bay’s Scotch Ale, Cedar Dust IPA, NW Original IPA, and select seasonals will continue to be available in stores, restaurants, and pubs even after the brewery closes in Bellingham.
Boundary Bay Brewery’s General Manager, Janet Lightner, says they also continue a relationship with a longtime distribution partner. “While Black Raven will be brewing our Boundary recipes, we’re grateful that another valued business partner of ours will be responsible for distributing the beer to our Boundary customers.”
Walton Beverage, Boundary Bay’s longtime distribution partner, says it will continue to service all existing accounts, assuring Boundary Bay’s legacy and continued growth. “Walton Beverage Company has been honored to distribute Boundary Bay beer, and we are thrilled to continue stocking the stores with this 30-year legendary brand. This has been a special partnership to us, as together our two local family businesses bring a combined total of 125 years serving our community. Walton beverage is proud to keep bringing you Boundary Bay beer.”
On September 20th, Boundary Bay will celebrate one last time at Railroad Ave in Bellingham. This will mark the closing of the longest-running brewery in Bellingham. They will host an all-day block party to say goodbye and thank the community. Throughout the day, there will be live music from some of Boundary’s longtime favorite bands, delicious food, and Boundary Bay beer on tap for those who want one last pint at the brewery.
