USA: Coors Light to Donate $500 to Mile High United Way for Each Colorado Rockies Homerun Hit During Spring Training
Barley news

In conjunction with the Colorado Rockies Spring Training home opener at Hi Corbett Field in Tucson, Ariz., against Chicago on Thursday, Coors Light announced on March 2 the launch of "Homeruns for the Home Team," a new charitable giving program. For each homerun hit by a Colorado Rockies player during Spring Training (March 1 - April 1), Coors Light will donate $500, up to $20,000 total, to the Mile High United Way, an organization focused on building a better community for metro Denver.

In the Spring Training away opener at Tucson Electric Park in Tucson, Ariz., on March 1, Rockies catcher Danny Ardoin knocked a second-inning, opposite-field homer to right field, "scoring" the first $500 donation on behalf of Coors Light to the Mile High United Way.

Throughout Spring Training, a tally of the Rockies' homeruns and corresponding contribution by Coors Light to the Mile High United Way will be announced during each home game at Hi Corbett Field and following each game on FSN Rocky Mountain.

"'Homeruns for the Home Team' is designed to get Colorado Rockies fans excited for the upcoming season while at the same time positively impacting the United Way 'home team' in Denver," said Jim Sabia, vice president of marketing for Coors Light. "Last year, more than 25 homeruns were hit by Rockies players during Spring Training, and we hope to see that number increase this season, which would be great for both the Rockies and the Mile High United Way."

"Coors Light has supported the Rockies since the team's inception. The 'Homeruns for the Home Team' program is a great way to get our fans engaged in Spring Training and help build excitement around the team's homerun hitters," said Jay Alves, Colorado Rockies vice president of communications/public relations.

Coors Light has been a partner of the Colorado Rockies since 1993. Coors Brewing Company and its employees have donated more than $10 million to the Mile High United Way since 1992.
