EU: Winter barley harvest to drop by 2%
The June-July heat and draught affected largely the most part of 2006 crops, the French ministry of Agriculture has indicated in its last outlook note on grains. Domestic winter barley yield has accordingly diminished by 100 gk/ha.
In fact, the 2006 gain harvest campaign is presumed to yield 4% less grain than a year ago, the ministry said.
As for the European Commission, its recently published yield analysis provides that winter barley harvest will drop by 2%. Germany, Poland, The United Kingdom, France and Italy are to be most affected by heat and draught.
