UK: Worcestershire farmer yields 6.25t of barley per hectare, nitrogen level fairly high
Andrew Symonds from Lincoms Farm finished harvest three weeks ago in Worcestershire. He said yields were down on last year but this had been expected due to the drought in June and July, Farmers Weekly Interactive released August 30.
Optic spring barley yielded 6.25t/ha (2.5t/acre) from 65ha, which he said was about average. Nitrogen levels were fairly high but he said the crop was borderline malting quality.
“Generally it has been a fairly average year but it is all in the shed. We had a good run at it with no drying costs, and we escaped most of the rain.”
• Crop: Spring barley
• Variety: Optic
• Area: 65ha
• Yield: 6.25t/ha (2.5t/acre)
