Barley news

Toowoomba grain industry professional Richard Merson last week began his appointment as ABB Grain’s field officer responsible for Queensland, the company released September 05.

Richard, who is based in ABB’s Toowoomba office, said he was looking forward to the opportunities and challenges ahead with ABB.

“I have some specific goals in mind to help service the local growers and ultimately I aim to raise ABB’s profile throughout Queensland, so ABB becomes the buyer of choice for progressive grain growers,” Mr Merson said.

Richard is a former grain grower from Cecil Plains and has worked in the local agricultural industry for many years, including as a consultant for a Toowoomba based marketing advisory company and as a cotton buyer agent for Macquarie Bank.

“I have plenty of experience in grain marketing and a wealth of knowledge of the local area.

“I’m currently completing a diploma of financial services and am well skilled in all aspects of grain marketing, including risk management.

“In my new role I’m hoping to combine my expertise in the grains industry and my knowledge of the Queensland grain market and grain growers, to provide the best options for growers.”

ABB, as one of Australia’s largest agribusinesses, accumulates grains, pulses and oilseeds from all grain growing regions of Australia and as a leader in grain accumulation; ABB continues to expand its network along the east coast.

ABB’s trading operations manager Andrew Hannon said that with offices located in Swan Hill, Horsham, Dubbo, Wagga Wagga, Goondiwindi and Toowoomba, ABB continued to show its commitment to servicing the needs of east coast growers and providing an alternative for grain marketing.

“Grain marketing is a complex area of the grain industry. ABB has some very competitive grain marketing products and our local field officers can assist growers with their grain marketing choices,” Mr Hannon said.
