1. Industry news
The Czech second largest brewer, Prazske Pivovary, a part of the Interbrew group, has named Vincent Lefere as its new CEO. Lefere is now CEO at Interbrew Romania and will take up his new post on November 18. He is a Belgian and has been working for Interbrew for 12 years. Prazske Pivovary owns around 14% of Czech beer market.
The Australian distributors of the US beer brand, Budweiser, the leading brand of the Anheuser-Busch brewing conglomerate, and the Australian Adelaide-based brewer, Coopers Brewery, are to form a joint venture company. The new company will market both the Coopers brand and Budweiser. The company is to be headquartered in Melbourne and Tim Cooper is to be its chairman.
The Brazilian brewery Brahma has launched a new light beer brand, Brahma X, which contains 5.5° alcohol. With this launch the brewery intends to win 30% of the light segment in the Venezuelan market. To develop and launch Brahma X the company invested US$20 million in 2002 and it aims to sell 7 million litres over the first year of operations and end 2003 selling 22 million litres.
Brussels, Belgium, 28 October 2002 – Interbrew, the world’s third-biggest brewer by volume announced its trading data for the first nine months of 2002, which confirm the growth of its business. Compared with the same nine-month period last year the volume is up 16.8%. “Stella Artois® continues its double-digit growth in the United Kingdom, while in Germany Beck's® continues to outperform the industry at premium pricing,” the company reported......www.e-malt.com
Anheuser-Bush Companies, Inc. reported strong achievements for the third quarter and nine months of 2002. According to Patrick Stokes, President and CEO, net sales increased 5.2% and 4.5%, respectively for the periods, versus the same 2001 periods.
