Canada, ON: Cool Beer releases Millennium Buzz & Stonewall Light
|
Following a soft launch back in the spring, Cool Beer has officially announced the release of two of its flagship brands in single-serve slim cans, Canadian Beer Pulse reported on July, 16.
Millennium Buzz Hemp Beer & Stonewall Light are both available now in unique 355 ml Cans designed by packaging company Rexam.
“Cans are one of the fastest growing segments in the Canadian beer market,” said Andrew Costa, Marketing Manager for Cool Brewery, in a statement.
“We have been very patient to choose a very unique can to properly present and pour our affordable award winning beers. We wanted a beer can that was different from the other breweries and Rexam delivered.”
The single cans of Millennium Buzz and Stonewall Light retail for C$1.65, and are available at select LCBO and Beer Store locations, as well as the Cool retail store.

USA, CA: Headlands Brewing Co. debuts by launching three beers
|
Three new beers are being tapped: Point Bonita Rustic Lager, Hill 88 Double IPA and Groupe G Belgian RyePA, brewed and crafted by the recently launched Headlands Brewing, 7x7 reported on July, 16.
The founders of the brewery are: Phil Cutti, Head Brewer at SouthPaw BBQ, Patrick Horn, former co-owner of Pacific Brewing Laboratory, and Inna Volynskaya, a former Operations Manager at Lagunitas. With financing from investors, the three got Headlands up and running in a scant four months. The beers are currently contract-brewed at Devil’s Canyon Brewery, but Headlands is shopping for a location to establish a 20 to 30 barrel brewhouse. And although their beers are currently available only on draft, Headlands plans to package them in 16-ounce cans starting in September.
“I see the styles defined by the BJCP (Beer Judging Certification Program) as guidelines. I will always give a nod to the traditional, but like to paint outside the lines sometimes. There are so many new hop varieties and yeast strains and blends that it is essentially limitless as to what we as brewers can create,” said Phil Cutti talking about an increasingly crowded craft beer market.
“As a company, we strive for a strong connection with

USA, OR: Full Sail Brewing launches Faria’s Clara
|
Full Sail Brewing celebrates Oregon Craft Beer Month with the release of a new Brewer’s Share beer - Faria’s Clara, helles lager crafted by Brewer Francisco Farias Martinez, Oregon Live reported on July, 13.
“The name says it all, as ‘clara’ means ‘clear’ in Spanish. I thought this style would be the perfect shift beer to share with the crew on the warm summer afternoons that July will bring,” Francisco Farias Martinez said.
“Cheers to Full Sail for giving me this great opportunity to become a Brewer and to make my own beer,” added Francisco.
Full Sail Brewing picks a local charity to receive a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the each Brewer’s Share series beer, and Francisco has chosen to support the Hood River Valley Adult Center Meals on Wheels Sponsor a Senior program. Every keg of Francisco’s lager benefits this organization.

USA, ME: Baxter Brewing Co. expands in order to meet the increasing demand for beer
|
Luke Livingston, president and founder of Baxter Brewing Co., has nearly doubled his production of beer with the addition of three new 8,000-gallon fermentation tanks in order to keep up with the gowing demand for beer. Livingston said three more tanks will be installed this winter, Bangor Daily News reported on July 13.
Since three new 8,000-gallon fermenters were installed this spring, production has increased from about 8,000 barrels per year to 15,000 barrels. The canning line has sped up to one can per second. And, in December, three more equally huge fermenters will be installed, effectively doubling production again.
Yet the 3-year-old beer company is still unable to keep up with demand, according to Luke Livingston, the company’s founder and president.
“In the old days, we’d maybe package 85 barrels,” Livingston said. “This week, we packaged 185 barrels of beer. We’re getting a little closer than we were, but our total orders for this week are still more than 600 barrels.
“It beats the alternative, but it’s still tedious,” he said.
“The growth will help”, Livingston said.
Several beers were in the tap room Thursday, July, 11, including a concoction called “peachy-keen.”
“There’s a pretty constant stream of test brews here,” said Ben Low, Baxter’s

USA, CO: New Belgium Brewing expands by entering the market of Delaware
|
In an effort to expand its distribution footprint to include all 50 states by 2018, New Belgium Brewing announced plans to begin selling beer in Delaware on August 19, Brew Bound reported on July, 15.
The Fort Collins-based craft brewery has signed an agreement with N.K.S. Distributors, a member of the Anheuser-Busch wholesaler network. The New Castle, DE, operates a second warehouse facility in Milton and will distribute New Belgium beers across the entire state.
“This will mark our 33rd state of distribution, once Florida opens up later this month, and it’s exciting for us to be inching our way into more and more areas in the Northeast,” said New Belgium Brewing Sales Co-Pilot, Brian Krueger. “We definitely look forward to having a New Belgium beer with our friends in The First State.”
Like previous launches in Alaska, Florida and Louisiana this year, New Belgium will take a phased rollout approach, leading with sales of 22 oz. bottles of its core brands - Fat Tire, Ranger IPA, (1)Rampant Imperial IPA and Trippel - along with two Lips of Faith offerings and Shift 12-pack cans. Draft and 12 oz. bottles will then be made available in mid-October.

USA, CA: Stone Brewing Co. to collaborate with Bluejacket and 10 Barrel Brewing
|
Bluejacket Brewmaster, Megan Parisi, revealed on Monday, July, 15 that Stone Brewing Co.’s next collaboration partners are Bluejacket and 10 Barrel Brewing, Beer Pulse reported on July, 16.
Bluejacket is a not-yet-opened brewery in Washington DC but is getting a lot of national exposure through various collaborations with high-profile brewers.
10 Barrel Brewing is a soon-to-be-regional brewery currently operating in Oregon and opening a brewpub in Idaho.
Stone and 10 Barrel are both known for hop-forward beers, therefore, this collaboration may lead to another IPA. Three of the four most recent Stone collaborations have been IPAs.

USA, WA: DC Brau enters the beer market of Maryland
|
Starting in mid-July, DC Brau, the fifth fastest-growing craft brewery in America from 2011-2012, will expand its market territory by offering its beers across Maryland, beginning with Montgomery County, Beer Pulse reported on July, 16.
“Expanding into Maryland has always been one of our goals, said Brandon Skall, the owner of DC Brau.”
“We think that it’s very crucial for DC Brau to be seen as an entire DC metro-area brewery, and in order to do that, we need exposure in Montgomery County, Baltimore County, Howard County and Calvert County,” he said.
“With DC Brau’s expanded brewhouse completely online, the next key element was getting the right people in place to make Maryland happen,” continued Skall.
“We recently made Jake Agger our point-person for Maryland. He’s going to have some heavy lifting to do, but we’re confident he’ll get the job done.”

Australia: Foster’s to relaunch its Crown Lager brand
|
Foster's will relaunch its Crown Lager brand in Australia using new labelling and better hops to tighten the company's grip on the nation's premium beer sector, The Age reported on July, 17.
The first batch of the reformulated beer was brewed last week and it was expected to hit the shops soon. The price of Crown Lager would not change, said Ari Mervis, Foster's boss and CEO of SABMiller Asia Pacific.
The new Crown Lager complements a recent relaunch of Foster's flagship VB brand, which regained its position as Australia's biggest selling beer from rival XXXX after being returned to its historic alcohol strength.
Mr Mervis said the Crown makeover was a natural step for the company after fixing its ailing VB brand, which drinkers had been turning away from for a decade.
"Obviously we have been focused on VB but also now the dusting off and improvement that we have made to Crown Lager which is going into the market as we speak," Mr Mervis said as he prepared to address an annual SABMiller investor roadshow.
"We have done quite a lot of consumer research around Crown which is in a very good space, so it's not like VB which was broken.
Mr Mervis said

UK: Demand for Null-Lox spring barley set to reach new high next season
|
Demand for Null-Lox spring barley is set to reach a new high next season, opening up opportunities for more growers, Farming UK reported on July, 15.
Stuart Shand, sales director at Gleadell Agriculture, predicts Null-Lox varieties will take up to 8% of the total spring malting barley market next year and up to 15% by 2015.
“Growers planning their 2014 rotations should consider saving some space to give these specialist spring brewing varieties a try. With drilling turnaround times likely to be especially tight this autumn it’s an ideal opportunity,” he says.
Null-Lox spring malting barley is a conventional spring barley type developed by Carlsberg and Heineken Research to produce beer that tastes better for longer and with better head retention. It also has processing properties that reduce energy use and carbon footprint while improving its malting qualities.
Carlsberg has committed to brew its own branded beer with Null-Lox. As well as this proven and increasing market, Null-Lox varieties are showing excellent potential on UK farms, says Mr Shand.
Null-Lox varieties have been grown in the UK for four years and have proved themselves in both drought and extremely wet years. “In last year’s very difficult season, Cha Cha, Charmay and Cheerio all performed extremely
