Malting barley prices in North Dakota advanced eight cents in February, to $2.90. No price change was noted for feed barley at $2.85 a bushel.

Overall price indices for farm products in North Dakota remained constant during February, according to the monthly Farm Price Report issued by the state field office of the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service, March 6.

The Index of All Farm Prices Received for All Farm Products in February stood at 126 percent of the 1990-1992 base. This is steady from last month's figure, but up 10 percent over last year and 13 percent higher than two years ago.

The All Crops Index was rated at 132 percent of the base, which represented an increase of one percent from last month, but up 23 percent from February 2006, while the All Livestock and Products Index at 115 percent is down one percent from last month and down 13 percent from last year. The February figures were calculated using preliminary mid-month prices.

The January Index of Prices Received for All Farm Products, recalculated with full month prices was 126 percent of the base, down four percent from the December 2006 figure, but up seven percent from January 2006.

The All Crops Index was pegged at 131 percent, down two percent from the previous month but 18 percent higher than January 2006 and the All Livestock and Products Index stood at 114 percent, which marked a four percent decline from the previous month and a 17 percent fall from January 2006.

Nationwide, the All Farm Products Index stood at 127 percent down three percent from a month ago, but up 14 percent from a year ago. The All Crops Index of 137 percent represented an increase of six percent over last month and 24 percent over a year ago. The Livestock and Products Index was rated at 119 percent in February, up three percent from last month and five percent higher than a year ago.
