| E-Malt.com News article: UK: S&N raises by 4% factory gate prices
Scottish & Newcastle has raised its wholesale beer prices by nearly four per cent, The Publican reported March 6.
The increase means the wholesale price of a barrel of S&N beer rises by £9.50, equating to a 3.5p hike in the wholesale price of a pint.
A spokesman for the brewer said the 3.9 per cent duty-exclusive price rise was the result of rising raw material costs, energy prices and wages.
“We absorb as much as we can in the way of price rises that affect us as a producer, but we have to raise prices eventually. We’re committed to only doing it once a year," he said.
The increase was marginally below current RPI (retail price index), he added.
