Shares in brewer Scottish & Newcastle, Britain's largest brewer, rose 2.7 percent to 587.5 pence on Tuesday on talk that Danish rival Carlsberg was buying the stock on the market at around 590 pence per share, Reuters reported August 14.
Traders said there was talk of a bid approach at 690-700 pence per share.
By 1232 GMT, more than 11 million shares in Scottish & Newcastle traded, compared with a full-day average of 10.8 million in the past 30 days.
