Pilsner Urquell is celebrating a historical milestone - the birth of golden beer, Business Wire reported October, 4. One hundred and sixty-five years ago, Josef Groll, a young visionary and brewmaster discovered the original technique for brewing golden lager, which created Pilsner Urquell, the world's first golden beer.

Prior to October 5, 1842, people around the world consumed beer that was dark and murky. In Plzen, Czech Republic, at the Plzensky Prazdroj Brewery, Groll, saw the "light" and introduced the world to its first golden beer ever - Pilsner Urquell. The name Pilsner Urquell literally translates into "pilsner from the original source." For more than a century and a half, Pilsner Urquell has been offering discerning beer drinkers a balanced and refreshing beer with hints of buttery caramel, a dry finish and pronounced floral and spicy hop aromas.
