Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) has appointed a new Managing Director with effect from October 22, The Namibian published October 23.

The appointment of Ciaran Duffy was made by the Chairman of Namibia Breweries Limited, Sven Thieme yesterday when he informed NBL management and staff. Duffy is filling the position of Managing Director which became vacant following the resignation of Olusegun Adebanji on September 3 2007.

"Duffy has been part of the NBL family since his appointment as Financial Director of NBL in November 2004, and we are confident that with his Namibian knowledge and the vast experience that he acquired in his many years with Diageo both in Europe and Africa, he will in his new capacity as Managing Director, lead the staff and management of NBL to even greater heights," said Thieme.

A Chartered Accountant by profession, Duffy was previously employed amongst others as * A Global Business Support partner with Diageo in London 2002 - 2004, * The Financial Director for Guinness Africa, Cameroon 1999 - 2002, * An Audit Manager for Guinness Africa, Nigeria 1997 - 1999, * NBL Financial Director, 2004 to date Thieme further expressed support to Duffy in his journey to develop NBL as the fastest growing beverage producer in Sub-Saharan Africa; and appealed to both management and staff to continue with their good work and render the MD their full support and commitment.

In acceptance of his new assignment, Duffy said: "While I feel deeply honoured for being assigned this challenge, I wish to express my commitment to help make NBL a successful beverage enterprise of note in Africa. With the team at hand, I am confident that we are in the position to face global challenges and sustain our growth.

I accept this challenge with humility and I am looking forward to working together with all my colleagues as we continuously challenge our past to improve the future for everyone while making NBL the fastest growing beverage company in sub-Sahara Africa."
