E-Malt.com News article: Uganda: Pilsner, Senator Lager beers prices go down
Brewery news

Uganda Breweries has reduced prices of Pilsner Lager and Senator Lager beers by sh200, according to New Vision (Kampala), June 16. Pilsner's retail price is now sh1,300 from sh1,500, while Senator costs sh1,000 from sh1,200. A 500ml cup from a keg of Senator costs sh500.

"This price change is to take place immediately and will be closely-monitored to ensure our loyal consumers purchase their favourite brands at the new price," head of corporate affairs, Marion Muyobo, said.

The change followed the finance minister, Dr. Ezra Suruma's reduction of Excise Duty on beer made from local raw materials from 30% to 20%.

Muyobo thanked the Government for considering their request to reduce Excise Duty on beer produced using raw materials to 20%.

She said the reduction would increase purchasing of local raw materials from farmers, thereby promoting agriculture.

"This change is not aimed at encouraging people to drink more, but to promote local farmers and encourage consumption of good quality beer. Our responsible drinking campaign has been effective," she explained.

Prices of the company's other beer brands like Bell Lager, Tusker Malt Lager and Guinness are unchanged.

Distributors with old stock will also have to sell at the new prices and get a rebate from the company to avoid making losses.
