Ukraine brewing companies belonging to the Scandinavian holding company Baltic Beverages Holding increased beer sales 14% year-on-year to 150.96 million liters in January-June 2003, according to Ihor Tovkach, deputy general director of the beer and soft drink producer Slavutich, which is part of BBH, Interfax reported. In June 2003 the company’s breweries sold 35.74 million liters of beer, which is 11% more than in June 2002. Tovkach noted that in the first half the company maintained its share on the Ukrainian beer market at 20%.

BBH increased sales of beer in Ukraine in 2002 by 27% year-on-year to amount to 280 million liters.

The holding company Baltic Beverages Holding was set up in 1991 with equal participation by the Finnish brewing group Hartwall PLC and the Swedish-Norwegian company Pripps-Rignes to work in the CIS and Baltic states. At the moment the Swedish-Norwegian company is owned by Denmark"s Carlsberg and the Finnish shares has been acquired by the British company Scottish & Newcastle. In the CIS and Baltic states BBH controls 15 breweries. In particular, in Ukraine - Lviv Brewery (99.18%), Slavutich Brewery (81%) and Slavutich Malt Plant (86%).
