The Swedish brewing conglomerate, Baltic Beverages Holding AB (BBH), invested about USD10 million in Russian brewery Pikra, based in Krasnoyarsk. BBH bought all excess shares (66700) issued by Pikra for US$150 each.

Baltic Beverages Holding AB was created in 1991 by Hartwall Pls and Pripps Ringnes specially to activate in the countries of Eastern Europe. Since 2001 Hartwall and Danish brewery Carlsberg Breweries AS own the company 50/50. In 2002 Hartwall merged with the British company Scottish & Newcastle. BBH controls breweries in Russia, Baltic states, Ukraine and Kazakhstan. In Russia it owns Baltika, Vena, Yarpivo, Voronejsky, Zolotoy Ural, Pikra. Brewing plants of ÂÂÍ in Russia output more than 200 million dekalitres of beer per year.

In 2002 Pikra increased sales volumes by 59% to 7286 thousand dekalitres. In 2003 Pikra plans to increase production volume by 27%.
