Interbrew announced on 06 August 2001, that it had acquired German Beck’s brewer for $1.58 billion.
Market analysts consider the price Interbrew paid is too much but Interbrew believes the acquisition will offer it a head start in a possible consolidation of Germany's fragmented market, as well as improve its sales by adding a premium brand to its portfolio.
