Grupo Modelo, Mexico's largest brewery, said on October 2 it expects 5 % growth in its 2003 U.S. exports and it plans to up prices on two of its leading brands. The beer company exports to the United States an average of 9 million hectoliters every year, a company's spokesman told Reuters. "We hope to increase (our exports to the U.S.) about 5 %," it said.

Half-owned by the world's leading brewer Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc., Modelo plans to increase its export prices on 12 oz. Corona and Corona Light beers, its two top sellers north of the border, effective Jan. 1, 2004. Modelo also sells the Pacifico, Negra Modelo and Modelo Especial brands in the United States.

The last time Modelo increased prices on beer shipped to the United States was in March 2002, when it raised them 3.5 %, the spokesman said.
