About 46.8% of beer is smuggled and illegally produced in Kyrgyzstan, the national statistics committee has reported to Interfax. The volume of smuggled beer in Kyrgyzstan comes to 15.548 million liters. Kyrgyzstan produced 16.988 million liters of vodka products and 7.067 million liters of pure alcohol in the first nine months of 2003, respectively 10% and 13.9% more than in the same period last year, the chief government regulator of alcohol production, storage and sales told Interfax.
