Carlsberg Breweries intends to lower prices on its Blaagul beer brand in Sweden in an attempt to compete with discount beer Sofiero, Berlingske Tidende newspaper reported on December 8. Now Blaagul costs 11.90skr (US$1.61) per half litre bottle. According to the newspaper, Carlsberg plans to reduce the price by 2.20skr to 9.70skr from 1 January next year. This move would undercut ‘Sofiero’, the most sold beer in Systembolaget, the Swedish state-owned drinks retailer, which is priced at 9.90skr per half litre. Carlsberg didn’t comment.
