The Ithaca Brewery broke ground on a new $3 mln facility. The 15,000 square foot facility will include a pub and welcome center, as well as increase their brewing capacity, Your News Now reported on August, 26.

Officials hope to begin construction within the next couple of weeks and have their eye on opening to the public in June 2012.

To celebrate the milestone, they tapped into a beer they fittingly named "Ground Break," which they brewed two years ago when they began planning.

"We made this beer two years ago with the idea that we will eventually drink it at our ground breaking ceremonies. It's nice to get to the point that you can put a shovel in the ground and in the next couple of weeks, if we can get some machinery up here and start working it'd be great," Ithaca Brewery owner Dan Mitchell said.

Mitchell also says the new building will allow them to grow three or four times their current capacity.
