SABMiller announced on January 5 the appointment of Tim Dewey as its international brands director with overall responsibility for Pilsner Urquell.
Mr. Dewey's role is to increase focus on the development of Pilsner Urquell as a significant international brand within the SABMiller stable by providing strong leadership for the brand and by supporting the group's operating businesses in their in-market programmes. He reports to SABMiller group marketing director, Mark Sherrington.
Mark Sherrington commented: "Tim's appointment reinforces our commitment to grow our brands in the international premium beer segment. I am very pleased to add someone of his calibre and experience to the team to help drive the business forward." Mr. Dewey, 45, brings with him a strong track record in international marketing, having most recently served as international marketing director for William Grant & Sons. Prior to this he spent 12 years with Diageo/Grand Metropolitan where his roles included international marketing director for Smirnoff vodka as well as head of UDV's global innovation facility. He started his marketing career with Unilever.
SABMiller plc is one of the world's largest brewers, with 2002/03 lager volumes in excess of 115 million hectolitres. It has a brewing presence in over 40 countries across four continents and a portfolio of strong brands and leading market shares in many of the countries in which it has brewing operations.
In the year ended 31 March 2003, the group generated US$770 million pre-tax profit from a turnover of US$9,112 million. SABMiller plc is listed on the London and Johannesburg stock exchanges.
