Dan and Hillary Baker, of Otsego, along with other business partners, are in the early stages of getting their microbrewery, Barking Cat Brewing Company, off the ground, Mlive.com reported on February, 07.

Baker, 48, said he's still looking for a location, most likely somewhere in Allegan County, to serve as home for their business dream.

"It's not so much an idea anymore, we're approaching reality," said Baker, who, along with his wife, has been homebrewing for four years. "But we have a long way to go."

Baker did not want to share many details about Barking Cat because it's so early in the process, but he said more news will roll out in March, with more details through the spring and summer. He's hoping to open the microbrewery at some point in 2013.

In preparation for its launch, Baker said he's done extensive research, including talking to people in the industry, such as Bell's Brewery Inc., Arcadia Brewing Co., Short's Brewing Co., Paw Paw Brewing Co. and Rockford Brewing Co.

“Anybody that will give me an ear and a couple minutes, we’ve talked to them,” Baker said.
