E-Malt.com News article: Canada, ON: Gananoque Brewing launches Red Fife Heritage Wheat from local ingredients
Brewery news

Gananoque Brewing has announced the launch of Red Fife Heritage Wheat, the second in the “Terroir” series of one-off beers made with local ingredients, Canadian Beer News reported on May, 29.

Following on last winter’s Shiver Eisbock, this new beer has been brewed under contract at Church Key Brewery using a heritage strain of red fife wheat from the 1840s that is being grown today at Ironwood Organic Farms.

In an email to CBN, Gananoque Brewing owner Bruce Davis wrote that he is “incredibly proud of the work of our team on this product. Part of our process was involving Chris Wooding, who farms the wheat, right from the recipe development and planning phases. We had great response over the winter to our Shiver Eisbock so we are going to continue with these really interesting beers as part of our business growth.”

Described as having “an American-style wheat mouth feel and flavouring with a distinctive brownish/red colouring,” Red Fife Heritage Wheat was launched last week at the Grad Club in Kingston and at the Firehall Theatre in Gananoque before going into general release. This single batch beer will be available exclusively on tap at select bars and restaurants in Eastern and Southern Ontario while supplies last.
