| E-Malt.com News article: Bulgaria: Four summer months drink in 50% of all beer consumed annually in Bulgaria
Almost 50% of the total volume of beer consumed annually in Bulgaria is drunk in the summer, Ivana Radomirova, chief secretary of the Union of Brewers in Bulgaria, was quoted as saying by FOCUS News Agency on June, 25. According to the marketing agencies, a growing number of Bulgarians drink beer year-round, but almost 50% of beer consumption in Bulgaria is in the summer months – May, June, July and August.
“Again in the summer about 60% of people drink beer at least once a week. During a European or world football championship (we do not have any accurate statistics we can cite) we guess beer consumption climbs by around 3% to 5%,” she noted.
“And this is quite normal, because beer has low alcohol content and is considered to be a social drink. It is normal; when people spend so much time in front of the television – at home or in entertainment entities – they consume something light, pleasant and natural,” said Ivana Radomirova.
The Bulgarian capital Sofia and towns of Ruse, Montana and Stara Zagora report the highest beer consumption and this has nothing to do with the number of the population – polls show they just drink beer more frequently, Ms. Radomirova said.
