| E-Malt.com News article: Canada, AB: Hog’s Head Brewing opens in St. Albert
A few months after it was first announced, Hog’s Head Brewing is now up and running in St. Albert, a small city northwest of Edmonton, Canadian Beer News reported on November, 27.
Described by managing partner Brian Molloy as a “hop centric brewery,” Hog’s Head launched last month with keg sales of two beers – Baby Back Hops, a 80 IBU red IPA and Death By Pumpkin, a dry-hopped spiced pumpkin ale that will be available year-round. Both beers will be available in retail growlers starting in December, with bottles and cans to follow in the new year.
Joining the Hog’s Head line-up soon will be Hog’s Breath (a pale ale made with coriander and rose hips) and Hog’s Tooth (a vanilla nut brown ale). Following in March will be a 100 IBU unfiltered IPA called Hop Slayer, with the on-site brewery store expected to open around the same time.
In addition to their own brands, Hog’s Head is also producing beers from Amber’s Brewing under contract, following the closure of the Amber’s brewery in Edmonton this past summer. Jim Gibbons of Amber’s is closely involved with the brewing and marketing of the brands, and several Amber’s beers will be relaunched in cans next March.
