E-Malt.com News article: USA, CA: FATE Brewing Co. opens in Boulder
Brewery news

Boulder's newest craft brewery opened its doors, dailycamera.com reported on February, 4.

In marking its official grand opening, FATE Brewing Co. filled a 7,000-square-foot restaurant space and also came a step closer to becoming Boulder's 19th craft brewery.

FATE's new restaurant and brewery includes a 3,000-square-foot brew house, seating for 200 people and a 30-tap bar, officials said.

Equipment for the in-house brewing facility is expected to arrive in three weeks, said Mike Lawinski, FATE's founder. In the meantime, the restaurant is pouring several beers brewed in collaboration with locals such as Asher Brewing Co. and Crystal Springs Brewing Co.

Another loose end - how Boulder's FATE shares its name with the Fate Brewing Co. in Scottsdale, Arizona - is expected to come to a resolution soon, Lawinski said.

"We're friendly toward each other and we haven't come to anything final," he said. "A long time ago we decided to spend time and resources building each other up (as opposed to) bringing each other down. ... I think you'll see something soon from that."

Lawinski founded FATE last year and signed on Jeff Griffith, formerly of Golden City Brewery, as its head brewer.

FATE's arrival and the recent opening of J Wells Brewery, bring the number of craft breweries in the city to 19. An additional 10 Boulder breweries - including Sanitas Brewing and Upslope Brewing's second location - are in the planning stages, according to city planning documents and listings from the Brewers Association.

Jamie Wells, who opened J Wells Brewery on January, 10, said he thinks the increased competition could be beneficial to a new operation such as his brewery and taphouse.

"I think it's good all around," Wells said. "I think a lot of people are coming over to craft beer, and that's why everyone is expanding. I don't think it's really going to hurt us at all."
