USA: The Coors Brewing Co. is pulling ads featuring company chairman Peter Coors from the Colorado airwaves because of his rumored run for the U.S. Senate, according to United Press International report from April 12. The Denver Post reported on April 12 the ads will be taken off television stations in Colorado so the company, the nation's third-largest brewer, can remain in compliance with federal campaign and election laws.

The Federal Elections Commission, which is responsible for the oversight of U.S. federal campaigns, has tentatively determined that such commercial advertisements cannot air 30 days before a primary or 60 days before a general election.

The FEC's ruling arises out of a section of the new McCain-Feingold campaign finance law that deals specifically with the issue of candidates for federal office appearing in commercial advertisements airing in the state or district where they are running.

Coors is expected to announce his candidacy on April 13 at the state capitol building in Denver.
