With over $175 million dollars invested, 133,000 square feet purchased, over 400 new construction and 140 permanent jobs created, New Belgium Brewing is only days away from breaking ground on its second location, Examiner.com reported on April 17.

A groundbreaking private ceremony will be held at the Asheville, NC location on May 1, which will then be followed-up by a public ceremony the next day, May 2.

When at full capacity at both their Fort Collins and Asheville locations, New Belgium Brewing will be producing over 500,000 barrels of beer each year. As mentioned earlier, this new location will deliver 140 new permanent jobs to the area.

New Belgium CEO and Co-Founder Kim Jordan talked about what has led up to this second location as well as some of the environmental programs New Belgium has invested in.

"Over the last two years, we’ve really enjoyed getting to know this community and we have developed strong partnerships with businesses, non-profits, government agencies and neighbors.

"We’re investing in greenways and all these amazing programs that our partners have established. We’re grateful to be part of this city and for our partnerships, and are incredibly excited to get this off the ground," Jordan said.

Embracing their respect for the environment and always trying to reuse the materials they have at their disposal, New Belgium was able to take materials present at the site they are building the second location on, and reuse them. The reusables included steel trusses, pine and oak beams, oak flooring, barn doors and more.

"Rather than send thousands of pounds of materials to the landfill, we worked with a great local partner salvaging wood, sheet metal and other materials to re-purpose for future use," said Jay Richardson, who is the general manager for the new Asheville location.

"We plan to reuse about 65-85% of those elements in the new buildings and plan to find a way to make the salvaged items we don’t use available to the community."
