| E-Malt.com News article: USA, KS: Border Brewing Co. to open this fall in Kansas City
Border Brewing Co. is taking a 1,750-square-foot space in Kansas City, at 404 E. 18th St., across from Grinders. A fall opening is planned for the brewery and taproom, Kansas City Star reported on May 13.
The brewery was founded in 2013 and has been looking for a site in the Crossroads area to “bridge the gap between beer drinkers and beer lovers,” said Eric Martens, owner and head brewer.
Its rotating lineup will have six to eight offerings at a time, including Extra Pale “Patio” Ale, Campfire Porter and an Imperial IPA.
“We want to have a high rotation of different styles of beers so people can try new things and be involved with the process,” Martens said. “I think it’s a great spot for us, being that close to Grinders and First Fridays going on. And I live in the area.”
Martens has a chemical engineering degree from Kansas State University and has been in that industry for five years. But he also has been a home brewer for seven years and wanted to make that a career.
He named the brewery “Border” in a nod to the Kansas/Missouri border.
“I’ve grown up on both the Kansas and Missouri sides. But our concept is also that we want it to appeal to both the current craft beer drinkers and those who might be trying craft beers for the first time,” Martens said.
Border Brewing Co. will have about five employees.
Torn Label Brewing Co. also is opening in the Crossroads area. It is taking a 7,000-square-foot space in the Studios Inc. at 1708 Campbell St. for a brewery and taproom expected to open this year.
