In a city rooted in beer brewing history, Jay Jubeck is filling the gap in the timeline.
“There are no commercial breweries in Dubuque,” said Jubeck.
Jubeck putting the finishing touches on Jubeck New World Brewing. He’s doing it all based on donations. He and his business partner used Kickstarter to raise the money to get the business started, kcrg.com reported on July 7.
Kickstarter in an online fundraising effort in which supporters pledge money in order to fund a project or new business.
Jubeck said, “we got about 100 members who are actually beer members where they pay for a certain amount of beer and we had 175 total backers. A lot of people just gave $10, $15, $20.”
Jubeck says anyone who donated $600 or more is considered a full member. He’ll give those members a growler full of a beer, that’s four pints, every week for one a year.
“The folks who were giving 2, 3,4,5,6 hundred dollars, that is a lot of money,” said Jubeck. “So we know that we had a lot of enthusiasm.”
In order to open the brewery Jubeck needed $30,000. He ended up raising $37,000. Now, he’s just ready to starting serving his original creations.
Jubeck said, “We’ll have apricot pale ale. A lavender honey wheat. And we have a pretty straight American pale ale which I think we are going to call Iowa Street Ale since we are right here near Iowa Street. “
Jubeck says people are still donating money and signing up to become a member. But as soon as they open, they’ll stop taking memberships. He says he plans to hold a soft opening for members on July 17th.
