E-Malt.com News article: USA, IL: Solemn Oath Brewery to double production by year-end
Brewery news

Solemn Oath Brewery, a Naperville beer company that focuses on Belgian-inspired and barrel-aged beers, will nearly double its production once expansion of its headquarters is completed by year-end, Chicago Business reported on July 21.

The expansion focuses on updating brewing and packaging systems that will allow a 94 percent increase in beer production while maintaining the same manpower. This means the brewery's 3,000-barrels-per-year production — each barrel holding 31 gallons — will jump to about 6,000 barrels each year.

The production boost is expected to raise revenue by 50 percent, said John Barley, the brewery's co-founder and owner.

“By focusing on infrastructure, we will have much better ability to ease some of that demand on our beer,” Mr. Barley said.

In May, Solemn Oath added 7,000 square feet to its headquarters, bringing the brewery's total square footage to 16,800.

A new in-house canning line will allow the company to package its beer in six-packs of 12-ounce aluminum cans. Canned beer is expected to arrive on Chicago's store shelves in November. Solemn Oath started with draft beer when it started in 2012 and launched 22-ounce bottles in December.

“We're excited to do small-format packaging," Mr. Barley said. "Cans improve portability and recyclability."

Mr. Barley declined to provide the cost of the expansion since the construction was not completed but said it was a six-figure investment.

About 80 percent of Solemn Oath's beer distribution is concentrated in Chicago. With the production increase, the company will focus on increasing its presence in Wisconsin.
